The Gist

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco married on September 27 in Santa Barbara, California, the bride wearing multiple Ralph Lauren dresses for her big day.

Though both are celebrities, this was not your typical celebrity wedding, a guest said.

One element that strayed from tradition? The pair had a barefoot, choreographed first dance—featuring elements from Dirty Dancing and Grease—that apparently left guests “in awe.”

When it comes to celebrity weddings, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s September 27 nuptials wasn’t your typical fare—and the emotional day was done their way, barefoot first dance and all.

The couple married on Saturday in Santa Barbara, California, surrounded by 170 of their nearest and dearest, including Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, who both gave speeches at the reception. (Paris Hilton, Paul Rudd, and Steve Martin were also on hand to celebrate.) As Gomez and Blanco exchanged vows, the bride was “sobbing and crying so hard,” according to a source speaking to Us Weekly, making everyone else do the same.

“Everyone there was sobbing, and it was extremely emotional,” the insider said, adding that Gomez “bawled her eyes out” as Blanco read his vows.

At their rehearsal dinner the night before, the pair hosted a smaller group for a sit-down formal dinner inside a tent, where they served Thai food—a nod to the couple’s early dates at a Thai restaurant.

For the big day, the decor was “very eclectic”—and the groom planned the entire wedding, according to Us Weekly. “It was very much his style and was similar to the decor in their Beverly Hills home,” the source said. “He’s very into design and loved doing it.”

As for details? Think velvet, couches “everywhere,” Persian rugs, and florals done in reds, whites, and browns. “They had rugs and carpet everywhere because Benny does not like to wear shoes,” the insider shared—and as such, the bride and groom had their shoes off for the majority of the evening, including for their wow-factor first dance.

Gomez and Blanco choreographed a barefoot first dance “featuring elements similar to Dirty Dancing and Grease,” Us Weekly reported. Gomez changed into a mid-length vintage white dress after wearing Ralph Lauren earlier in the evening, and the performance left everyone “in awe,” the insider said.

With the newlyweds setting the tone, at the reception, “Everyone was dancing barefoot, having the best time,” the source added.

Whereas the rehearsal dinner was a seated dinner, the reception was not. Nobu catered the meal, and guests could partake in an “elaborate” ice cream sundae bar for dessert.

“The wedding was pretty simple and not your typical ‘celebrity’ lavish wedding,” the source continued. “They both just wanted to dance and have fun, and you could feel so much love from them.”
