13:02 Newbury – Redorange (each-way)

ITV Racing is back on Saturday with a packed show from Newbury and Ayr, starting here with a Group 3 over 5f. REDORANGE is bang in the mix at the weights for Clive Cox and we can just forget his run in the Nunthorpe last time where he was hampered and never got involved. Prior to that he had won well at York and he’s got an each-way chance in this line-up with Callum Rodriguez doing the steering.

A handicap over 1m. THUNDER ROAR loves some juice in the ground and he’s down to a dangerous mark of 90, the lowest he’s been since the end of 2024. This season has been a disaster in general, but he won this last year off 93 for this column and if he’s going to bounce back at all it’s here. Tom Marquand rides for the Tony Coyle and Kaine Wood combination.

Here’s the Autumn Cup Handicap over nearly 1m6f. Wide open stuff. ROARING LEGEND gets Colin Keane on top for Olly Murphy and he was far from disgraced at Newmarket back in July when second in a handicap off 103. He’s very consistent, and while he has nothing in hand he’s a strong stayer at this trip. He’s up 2lb to 105 so it’s not going to be easy at all, but I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t bring something to the table even after a 71-day absence. I’d guess he’s been waiting for an ease in the ground despite that last performance coming on good to firm at 80-1!

Here’s the Listed Doonside Cup over 1m2f. HIGH STOCK stays and goes with juice in the ground so he’s the selection in a race where it’s annoying there are only seven runners. He has run twice this term, doing little in a Listed and Group 2, and he was miles behind Ice Max when last seen. This is a chance to get his act together and I would guess he’s been waiting for this surface as he’s been off for 120 days. He once looked very good on debut at Newmarket and has been lightly raced.

14:12 Newbury – Nabati (each-way)

Up in class next for the Group 2 Mill Reef – in honour of Ian Balding – for juveniles over 6f. Arapaho Gold has to take all the beating but NABATI is over priced for William Buick and Charlie Appleby. The former landed the Gimcrack in fine style last time, but it’s when you go back to July 17th that it becomes interesting. Then, Arapaho Gold beat Nabati by a neck over today’s course and distance off level weights, but they meet here with my hope 3lb better off. He’s a fantastic each-way bet if eight go to post.

Now the Ayr Silver Cup Handicap over 6f. HAVANA BLUE has enjoyed being dropped back to 6f in his last two starts and while his handicap mark has gone up from 80 to 90 for those successes, he might still have more to offer. He was once rated 93 when he was asked to go over a mile, and in his early days he coped with softish ground no problem at all. If he gets out well he might be hard to peg back. David Egan rides for Julie Camacho. Stall 10 is in the middle so let’s hope that is alright!

14:47 Newbury – Stem (each-way)

A handicap over 1m2f. STEM has more to give at this trip having failed to get home over 1m4f at Ascot in August. His 1m2f form this season consists of a win at Sandown and a third at that track last time. Jamie Spencer has been booked by Richard Hannon and he stays on the same mark of 89 from last time. He goes on any ground and has a strong each-way chance.

The Group 3 Firth of Clyde Stakes for youngsters over 6f. Many of these are desperate for Black Type. SILENT BEAUTY is the one to beat for Amo Racing with David Egan again on board this time for Kevin Philippart de Foy. A winner at Yarmouth on debut, the filly got lost at Royal Ascot but returned with a juicy-ground success at Ripon when last seen. Hopefully she can build on that.

15:40 Ayr – Candy (each-way)

The big betting event of the day in the Ayr Gold Cup Handicap over 6f and CANDY is massively overpriced. The colt’s form over 6f with juice in the ground reads 1141 and those figures include a fourth at Ascot in a 19-runner handicap and his success in last year’s Silver Cup. We can only hope stall 15 is a good spot and he’s just 5lb higher than his success last year with a lovely racing weight of 8st 13lb. He’s a decent each-way bet. Richard Spencer trains and Ryan Sexton has been handed the ride. He gets a first-time hood too.
