The Argentine registered 20 goal contributions across his 54 appearances for Aston Villa last season (11 goals, 9 assists), and will fancy his chances against a Spurs side that he scored against in all three head-to-head meetings last season. This is a generous price for a Buendia goal contribution, given Spurs’ defensive frailties and his habit of netting against them.
John McGinn to be shown a card
Scotland international John McGinn has already picked up two yellow cards in four Premier League starts this season, committing five fouls in these matches (1.28 per 90). This early record suggests that McGinn tends to commit reckless or tactical fouls with significant frequency, making cautions increasingly likely.
He picked up five yellow cards in the Premier League last season, so he’s already quite close to matching his tally from last year – which I think is quite reflective of the issues that Aston Villa have faced early on this year.
Mateus Fernandes to be shown a card
It’s a mystery to me why Roberto De Zerbi hasn’t been starting Mateus Fernandes in every game so far. I really rate the former West Ham man, and I’ve liked what I’ve seen from him in the minutes he has played so far. He’s already been booked this season, coming off the bench against Nottingham Forest to be cautioned inside just seven minutes of action.
On Saturday, he faces the most-fouled side in the Premier League over the last two seasons, and Tottenham chalked up five cards when the sides last met. Fernandes picked up seven yellow cards in his 35 starts for West Ham last season, the most of any player in the squad, and eight the season prior.
