During their visit to the Isle of Bute, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a moment that’s highly relatable for any long-term couple. Yes, even those who aren’t members of the royal family.
William and Kate, who are known in Scotland as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, stopped off in their namesake town in a history-making move. The day marked the first official visit from the royal couple, after the pair visited the Isles of Mull and Iona last year.
While there, the duo greeted a huge crowd of fans and well-wishers, stopping for chats and selfies. It was then that the classic couple moment happened. In a video captured by the King’s Guard Tours channel, Prince William is seen rushing up to Catherine, Princess of Wales, to give her a light-hearted nudge to hurry things up. ‘You’ve got to speed up,’ he said, tapping his watch, ‘You’ve got to get all the way down there before you go.’

The Princess of Wales didn’t appear to totally heed the Prince of Wales’s warning. She sped up a little, offering up a quick ‘Sorry!’ to both William and the crowds for her pace, but still made time to chat with as many fans as possible. Moments after William’s words, Kate was spotted back at it again, slowing right down to take selfies with those who asked.
Thankfully, William didn’t seem too bothered. Rather than chivvying along his wife again, he stood back and let her get on with things, watching with a very proud smile on his face.

While most couples won’t have had to make the rounds with adoring fans, we’ve all been there when it comes to one half of a relationship having to plead with the other to hurry up. Whether it’s you that takes far too long picking up every single option at the bookshop or your partner having a maddeningly slow walking pace, it feels like a significant portion of any relationship is spent rolling your eyes at each other’s timeliness.
Catherine, wearing a chocolate brown trench coat by Burberry along with a green rollneck jumper and brown jeans, delivered thanks to the members of the public who had braved the grey, drizzly weather to say hello. She was seen bringing one fan into a tight hug after being given flowers and telling another that next time she visits the Isle of Bute she hopes to take a swim, enjoy a trip to the sauna and take in some live music.

We doubt she’ll have time to pack all that in to this trip, which has already been rather busy. On the same day as meeting fans, Kate and William headed to Bute Shinty Club to have a whack at shinty, one of Scotland’s oldest sports (it’s a bit like hockey, but a bit more up-in-the-air… and fun!). They weren’t too bad at taking penalties, although Kate did admit she was nervous to hit the ball with full force, telling content creator Andy McAlindon: ‘I was a bit worried I was going to take your teeth out’.
Next up, the couple travelled to Ettrick Bay to meet the volunteers of Beachwatch Bute and join in on a beach clean. They also popped into the Anchor Tavern Pub… but not to sink pints, just to meet the community.
