The closure of the main Ballina to Castlebar road at Straide to traffic for months is simply unacceptable, according to Castlebar councillor.
The community of Straide have expressed their frustration with the situation in place for almost a month now, and which set to continue for another number of months.
The N58 at Straide is closed to traffic as a bridge is being constructed, and traffic is being diverted on to the Bohola road, at Ballylahan Bridge outside Foxford in one direction and from the N5 traffic must travel from Castlebar to Bohola to access Foxford and Ballina.
The roads on which traffic are being diverted are not fit for the volume of traffic being imposed on them and Castlebar Independent councillor Michael Kilcoyne spoke to Midwest News about the impact of the prolonged road closure on the Straide community….
