More than one million passengers travelled through Shannon Airport this summer, an increase of 11.5% on the same period last year.
The airport said the figure reflects continued growth in passenger numbers, with five new routes added this year to Warsaw, Madrid, Rome, Poznań and Frankfurt.
Passengers had access to 40 routes during the summer, including five daily transatlantic services at the height of the season.
Airport Director Niall Kearns said passing the one million mark over the four months between May and August was a “significant milestone”.
He said the new routes and increased frequencies had given passengers greater choice.
“Summer at Shannon was about much more than outbound travel,” Mr Kearns said.
“We welcomed thousands of overseas visitors coming to experience the Wild Atlantic Way and Ireland’s world-renowned golf courses, as well as sports fans travelling to and from major events in Ireland and the United States.”
The summer figures follow a strong start to the year, with passenger numbers at Shannon up 12% in the first six months compared with the same period in 2025.
Shannon Airport was also named Ireland’s fastest-growing major airport for three consecutive months – May, June and July – according to the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation.
The airport is now preparing for the winter season, when passengers will also be able to carry liquids, aerosols and gels in containers of up to two litres in their hand luggage.
That replaces the previous 100 millilitre restriction.
