Michéal Cahill is set to replace Jimmy Lee as the new manager of the Limerick footballers.
Lee stepped aside earlier this month and accused the county’s football board of a “disrespectful” lack of support to the management team and players in the process.
In a lengthy statement announcing his departure, Lee also called for his former head coach Cahill to be given the role.
Now, after a recommendation from the Treaty County’s managers appointments committee, Cahill is set to take charge for two seasons with an option of a third.
The proposal will go to a Limerick county board meeting in October for ratification with details of his management team to be confirmed in due course.
Mungret man Cahill was previously part of the Clare coaching team in a strength and conditioning role before joining Lee for the last two seasons with Limerick.
He has also worked with American teams in a number of sports, including baseball’s LA Dodgers and soccer academies Houston and Dallas – helping them with speed work during his studies.
