There’s lots of art to report on this week, and there is a reception, too.
The Brush Art Gallery and Studios on Market Street in Lowell is pleased to announce its annual show highlighting work from its 10 studio artists. This year’s collection of works focused on the theme “Shadows and Light” and explores the many facets in which shadows and light play a role in our daily explorations.
Whether it be nature, architecture or the folds of fabric, it is all a feast for the viewer to travel the timeline created by each artist.
Show dates are now through Sunday, Nov. 1, and artists’ reception is this Saturday, Sept. 26, from 2 to 4 p.m.
The artists and their media include Penelope Cox, handmade jewelry; Jenny Day, quilts; Jalix Delacrux, painter/mixed media; Lolita Demers, ceramics and mixed media; Claire Gagnon, painter; Chrissy Theo Hungate, sculpture/painting; Amber Hurley, fiber art; Paul Richardson, photography; Kellie Weeks, painter/printmaker; and Will Winslow, designer/illustrator.

‘Art in City Hall’
The “Art in City Hall” program features artwork by members of the Arts League of Lowell and is featured this month during City Hall business hours through Sept. 29.
The Arts League of Lowell features over 300 regional artists whose work fill the galleries in a year-round series of themed shows. This “Art in City Hall” exhibit presents a selection from our members showing the breadth and range of their work. The exhibit includes artists Beverly Chorbajian, Margarida Correia, Meredith Day, Patti Fielding, Sarah Goor, Mary Hart, John Kondra, Stephen Malagodi, Tricia Neumyer, Bill Ociepka, Kim Ramsay, James Roberts, Coleman Rogers, Bob Stegmaier, Robert Sykes, and Debbie White.

‘Ofrenda’
The Day of the Dead is a Mexican and Hispanic holiday that honors the dearly departed, and a Western Avenue artist named Gabriella Alejandra Aragon plans to make this a community event with an exhibit in the Storage Closet Gallery and the chance to honor your loved ones who have died. “Ofrenda” is based on small altars built during the Day of the Dead to honor those who have passed on.
“I have a show coming up for the celebration of Dia de los Muertos on October 3rd … I will be having a community ‘ofrenda’ to honor and celebrate loved ones who have passed. People are welcome to drop off a small photo, item or anything else small they are ok leaving behind. I strive to make community connections and know that Lowell is a large, diverse community. I grew up in Lynn and see so many parallels to my hometown.’’
The exhibit continues through December and is open during monthly Open Studios and by appointment.
