50% of US multinationals in West and North-West regions plan to increase employment in region in the next 12 months, while 50% plan to maintain employment numbers.
These figures were revealed at The American Chamber of Commerce Ireland (AmCham) West-North-West Conference and Dinner at The Galway Bay Hotel last week.
AmCham shared key findings from its FDI Insights survey of members.
While US multinationals in the West-North-West remain optimistic about stability and growth, respondents highlighted the greatest risks to continued foreign direct investment (FDI) in Ireland over the next 5 years, including infrastructure constraints (33%) and trade tariffs (33%).
The findings also highlight changing competitiveness pressures in the region. In AmCham’s Q3 2026 FDI Insights Survey, 83% of West-North-West respondents identified cost competitiveness as the number one challenge Ireland must overcome for their company to expand here, up from 17% in Q1 2024.
At the event, AmCham CEO Paul Sweetman launched #WhyIreland #WhyWest-North-West, a factsheet which highlights the attractiveness of the region to US multinationals.
