Chis and Mandy travelled from Chicago to elope in Enniscorthy.
An American couple made Enniscorthy their wedding and celebration venue during their romantic elopement in Ireland despite the harsh conditions of Storm Amy.
Niall Holohan of Holohan’s Bar was delighted to play a role in the couple’s special memories when they came through the door and asked for some wedding photos in his traditional Irish pub.
“They came in and said they are married and that they wanted to get some photos. So I asked them how many were in their wedding party and they said ‘Just us two – we are eloping!” he said.
Chris and Mandy, who travelled from Chicago, had their private civil ceremony in the 19th century Wilton Castle on the banks of the River Boro, and as part of their wedding they were eager to get photos in a traditional pub. As such, a variety of photos were taken to capture the ocassion, including one of the couple intertwining arms while drinking a pint.
Niall added that it was not an unusual occurrence to have a married couple celebrate in his pub.
“We would have people in for a drink who had their weddings in the Riverside hotel or Wilton Castle, but this is the first time where we were the main venue for a wedding celebration,” he explained.
At the time, Storm Amy was in full flow, with Niall adding that the weather was at “the height of it” when the happy couple came through the door for shelter and a pint.
The couple have now since travelled to the West of Ireland for a whistle stop tour of Ireland in what has surely been an unforgettable memory.
