A mum-of-two from Churchfield has managed to achieve the seemingly impossible after securing a slot on Amazon Prime for a film she produced and stars in.

Maria McLeod’s I Wish You Were Here recently landed on Amazon Prime Video following a successful festival run.

The independent feature film, was also co-directed and written by the Churchfield native, who now lives with her family in Ballycotton.

Set against the scenic backdrop of East Cork, I Wish You Were Here follows author Angela who, on returning to her family home, encounters a man strikingly similar to one the characters from her romance novels. However, the idyllic romance quickly unravels as Angela uncovers a devastating truth about herself.

The film features a cast of rising Irish talent, including Matthew Real, Tracy Keating, Daniel Fitzgibbon, Richard White, and Georgia Maguire. Since its debut, the micro-budget feature has resonated deeply with audiences and critics alike, earning nine festival wins and a prestigious Best Independent Feature Film nomination at the 15th Underground Cinema Awards.

Maria McLeod said she is thrilled with the success of the project.

“We set out with just a dream and a dedicated crew to tell a heartbreaking love story twisted by fate,” she said. “Bringing a debut feature from a completely independent space in Cork straight to a global platform like Prime Video shows the immense power of contemporary independent filmmaking.”

Others involved in the project include co-director Hannah Lane and cinematographer Aaron O’Keeffe.
