Matthew O’Reilly was the Barr’s hero…

Naomh Fionbarra have won the Louth Junior Football Championship for the 4th time in their history, after a highly dramatic replay went right to the wire in Tallanstown.

Much like in last Sunday’s first game, Dundalk Young Ireland’s led from the front, and only fell behind for the first time inside the final few minutes. Jordan O’Donoghue scored their goal in the first half, while Fearghal Sheekey saved a penalty before the interval, to ensure the 2018 champions led by 1-6 to 0-5 at half-time.

A two-pointer from Ciarán Markey brought the Togher club level at 0-9 to 1-6, after the Barr’s made a bright start to the second half.

Ruairí Kelly and Dean Maguire put Young Ireland’s two points up, but back-to-back late two-pointers from Matthew O’Reilly put Naomh Fionnbarra into the lead for the first time. O’Donoghue had a last-gasp opportunity from a free to register an equaliser, but his effort dropped agonoisingly wide, and the final whistle sounded moments later.

It’s a fourth Bellew Cup for the Barr’s. Their manager, Brendan Grant, spoke to Stephen Yore afterwards:
