Cork comedy star Kyla Cobbler opened up with an honest take on how she’s handling her first pregnancy. The Ballincollig native sat down with Patrick Kielty on RTÉ’s Late Late Show last night, and chatted about how she’s feeling ‘more herself’ after “white knuckle riding” the challenges of the first trimester.
Kyla announced the exciting baby news in September, just months after she tied the knot with South African-born husband, Simon Stewart, in the summer. Kyla and her master builder husband, Simon, who are based in London, are expecting their first child in April.
She got very honest with Patrick about how she found the first few weeks of pregnancy. She said that being pregnant is an “extremely joyful and beautiful thing,” but said, “it’s horrific.”
While many women face cravings and food aversions during pregnancy, Kyla admitted to one particularly Irish food item she’s been turned off.
She confessed she can’t stand a specific flavour of crisps. She laughed: “I can’t eat cheese and onion crisps. It’s going to be a terrible child, I can feel it. No craic. They don’t like Taytos, that’s the South African.”

She said that while “it’s been a fun journey,” it’s “similar to a parasite. It’s hard. Very, very hard.” She described handling a rollercoaster of emotions, saying: “You’re angry. You’re very sad” and joked: “I don’t even like my husband at the moment.”
It’s been an incredibly busy year for Kyla, 35, whose real name is Mikayla O’Connor. She and Simon were married in an intimate ceremony in Cork earlier in the summer. She performed on stages across Ireland, including at Electric Picnic, and recently sold out a headline show at Dublin’s 3Arena.
Her most recent hometown performances were two sold-out shows at Cork Opera House on Tuesday, 6 October and Wednesday, 7 October as part of her Not My Lemons tour.
