DC Comics will be giving Wonder Woman the royal treatment fitting of the Princess of Themyscira in the new year. The publisher has officially declared 2027 the ‘Year of Wonder’, promising exciting new releases for the iconic character.

Today marks the anniversary of Wonder Woman’s historic DC debut, and to celebrate, the publisher is sharing what they tease as an “unforgettable year of stories from celebrated comic book creators.” The celebrations will begin on Jan. 20, 2027 with Wonder Woman #41, which sees Louise Simonson writing the flagship Wonder Woman series for the first time for a special four-issue story arc that will establish a “bold new status quo for Diana and her world.” Cover art and further information about where DC is taking Wonder Woman have been revealed and can be seen below.

DC Announces ‘Year of Wonder’ Celebrations in 2027 for Wonder Woman

Simonson is joined by artist Cian Tormey for the new Wonder Woman issues, and DC teases that the story will see Diana determined to abolish the Amazon Safety Act and clear the path for her sisters to return to Man’s World. It won’t be a smooth process though, and after all the Amazons have endured, they might not be ready to return — and some may have even given up on saving humanity from itself in the process.

It appears that Diana will have the help of some of DC’s other iconic female characters, too. “I haven’t written many books with female leads, and they don’t come any more iconic than Diana,” Simonson said in DC’s press release announcing Wonder Woman #41. “Teaming her up with Lois Lane, another iconic character, is a dream come true. Throw in Granny Goodness and her Female Furies? It doesn’t get more fun than that.”

“Writing Wonder Woman, not just as part of the main series but during DC’s Year of Wonder, is both intimidating and exciting,” Simonson added. “Intimidating because my four-issue arc is sandwiched between the brilliant Tom King run and the work of the immensely talented, smart, and funny Stephanie Williams. Exciting because I get to work with artist Cian Tormey, who draws beautiful figures, exhilarating action, and subtle emotions with equal mastery. His pages are gorgeous!”

The Year of Wonder will continue after Simonson’s story, with writer Stephanie Williams and artist Elena Casagrande taking over for a six-issue arc that will run through October 2027. Williams previously shaped Diana’s mythos earlier this year and co-wrote Wonder Woman 2026 Annual: Wonder War – The Matriarch Special #1. DC teases that Williams’ run will “carry Wonder Woman into the next chapter of a year designed to celebrate the character’s enduring power, limitless potential, and place at the heart of the DC Universe.”

Wonder Woman Lines Up Star-Studded Cast of Creatives for 2027 Run

DC promises that further Wonder Woman stories and creators will be announced as the Year of Wonder continues throughout 2027. For Williams, getting to continue the run on the main Wonder Woman title is an exciting homecoming. “Diana has my whole heart, so getting to come back to her world after Wonder Woman and Matriarch feels like coming home, only this time with a longer runway,” Williams said.

“Six issues gives me room to really sit with Diana, to let her be fierce and funny and compassionate all at once, and to let the story breathe in a way I’m so excited for readers to experience. Plus, I finally get to work in the Nubia team-up I’ve been wanting to tell for a long time, but this time they won’t be going to Las Vegas.”

Williams also praised Simonson’s contributions to the title. “Louise is an absolute legend, and sharing this Year of Wonder with her is a full-circle, pinch-me moment. And then there’s Elena Casagrande, who is ridiculously talented. Few draw women quite like Elena does: gorgeous, powerful, and so full of life and movement. Getting to see her bring Diana and the Amazons to the page is a dream, and I can’t wait for everyone to see what she does.”

Simonson’s Wonder Woman #41 will arrive in comic book shops and digital retailers on Jan. 20, 2027.
