The most sustainable wardrobe to have is the one you already own, and the right seamstress can breathe new life into an old favourite, but sometimes there’s just no reviving a piece that has worn thin.
While charity shops and re-sale apps like Vinted are fantastic for giving quality clothes a second home, they are no place for textiles on their last legs.
When your clothes are fit for the bin, you just have to make sure they are going in the right one.

This winter, Penneys is encouraging those who are ready to part with their clothes to find out more about a new textile donation locator map on MyWaste.ie, developed as part of the Irish Government’s public awareness campaign on used textiles.
Customers can visit the online map to find their nearest participating location, including Penneys’ Textile Takeback boxes, or look out for the blue Textile Takeback boxes in Penneys stores.
The scheme also allows customers to donate pre-loved clothing, textiles, footwear and bags at collection boxes in any of its stores across Ireland, and accepts any brand, in any condition.
