In the box office supervillain battle, Matt Hagen beat Elizabeth Holmes. But it was a close thing. Clayface made $24 million in its box office debut, while You Can See Everything came in second for the second week in a row at $19.5 million. The parallels are eerie when you think about it. Both about power-mad blondes getting involved with the shadier side of the medical industrial complex, but Matt Hagen’s nanites worked, dammit! Ticket sales for YCSE are up 28 percent in its second week, since the film has expanded from 855 theaters to 2,655. With a cumulative box office of $45.1 million in two weeks, the film could very well surpass Fahrenheit 9/11’s $119 million to become the highest-grossing doc of all time.
Laika’s latest, Wildwood, came in at number 3 with $11.2 million for its first weekend. It also got a 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and an A from CinemaScore, so word of mouth could very well help it stay in theaters for a minute. Street Fighter fell from firs to fourth place in its second week of release, with $8.6 million. And Wicker, ahem, came at number 5 with $5.75 million. Next week, the film will have its one night of 4DX screenings, giving its week 2 box office a little juice.
