Ireland look set to be without centre Garry Ringrose for their Nations Championship campaign next month due to a hamstring injury.
The 31-year-old missed Leinster’s 24-18 win against Munster last Saturday after picking up the issue in training.
Ireland’s squad gathered in Dublin yesterday, with the first of four games for Andy Farrell’s side taking place against Argentina on Friday, 6 November.
The IRFU says Ringrose is “unlikely” to be involved in the games against Argentina, Fiji and South Africa at Aviva Stadium, while they will also face one other team at Twickenham on Saturday, 28 November.
Meanwhile, Sam Prendergast is continuing to be assessed for the wrist injury which kept him out of Leinster’s Interpro win last week. Speaking on Thursday, the 23-year-old’s provincial boss Leo Cullen suggested it could be a “tight” turnaround for Prendergast to be fit to face Los Pumas next week.
Winger Jimmy O’Brien is following the return to play protocols for a concussion, after failing a head injury assessment at half time on Saturday.
There is no update on Tommy O’Brien, however, who limped out of Saturday’s game late on.
Farrell has decided against calling up any replacements to his squad of 36, with uncertainty also surrounding the availability of Tadhg Furlong.
The tighthead prop is set to appear before an independent disciplinary committee after he was cited following an incident with Munster’s Gavin Coombes, who alleged he was grabbed in the groin area.
Details of when Furlong will face his hearing have not yet been announced.
