Amazon’s Prime Day sale has some steep discounts on things you might be thinking of upgrading to anyway, such as Apple’s MacBook Air

For the ‘squeezed middle’ who feel let down by Ireland’s Budget, finding savings on stuff suddenly seems to be a little more important. Amazon’s two-day ‘big deal’ sale has some decent bargains on tech things that you might have been buying anyway. We’ve picked five that can save you up to €270 per item.

…..

1. MacBook Air M4

Apple doesn’t do sales on its MacBooks, so Amazon’s sale on the most popular model is something worth looking into. The MacBook Air is the most-purchased laptop in the world, so if you’ve been waiting to upgrade, today is a really good time to do it at a huge discount. This is the latest, most powerful 13-inch MacBook Air with its M4 chip and 16GB of Ram for €978, almost €300 cheaper than the standard retail price of €1,249.

2. Sony WH1000XM4 and XM5

Sony has made the best flagship noise-cancelling headphones for the last decade. Two of them are around €50 off in the Prime sale — the WH1000XM4 (€205) and WH1000XM5 (€285). Of the two, I’d actually choose the cheaper XM4 model, as it’s foldable. The sound quality is every bit as good, the noise-cancelling is top of the range and the comfort on your head is superb for long sessions. Battery life is also excellent.

3. Apple iPad 11

Apple’s most recent 11-inch iPad, with its powerful A16 chip, centre-stage camera and support for both Apple Pencil USB-C and first-generation Apple Pencils, is down to €336 (128GB) from a retail price of €419. For most people, this is the best iPad to get and this is probably the cheapest you’ll ever see it.

4. Google Pixel 9a

This is one of the absolute best unlocked mid-range smartphones you can buy, even at its regular current price of €559 in Google’s online store. For €465 (128GB) or €515 (256GB), it’s a bit of a steal. The screen, camera and interface quality of the Pixel 9a is excellent and is barely a step down from Google’s premium Pixel models.

5. Xiaomi TV F 32

If you’re looking for a decent 32-inch telly to do the basics such as streaming and RTE, this deal is hard to beat. Xiaomi’s TV F 32 is down to €140 (from €215) and works with Fire OS7, Alexa Voice COntrol and Apple AirPlay. It’s not 4K (it’s HD) but that doesn’t really matter for a TV of this size. This is perfect for a spare room, student flat or just for someone who doesn’t need a massive telly.
