Donegal’s Muireann Bradley has become the youngest female artist in 22 years to top the Official British Jazz & Blues Chart.
The Ballybofey singer (19) made the mark yesterday with her double EP, Rose Dogs and Blackwood Pew.
Muireann is now the youngest female artist to sit at the top of the chart since Katie Melua in 2004.
“I’m as astounded as I am delighted that my double EP has reached number 1 on the UK Jazz and Blues Charts,” she posted on social media.
“I feel very honoured when I think of some of the artists that have achieved this before me over the last 30 years. Thank you to everyone who came to shows and bought LPs, CDs and downloads. Apparently I’m the youngest female artist in 22 years to reach this position, which is crazy!”
Muireann made a breakthrough appearance on Jool’s Annual Hootenanny on New Year’s Eve 2023, which was watched by a worldwide audience of millions on BBC
Since then she has been touring the US and Europe, but her feet remain firmly on the ground.
