There have been reports of bangers being thrown at pedestrians in the Twin Towns last night.

In one incident, in Stranorlar, a local man said he was left ‘shell shocked’ after an extremely loud cracker was thrown at him by passing teenagers at around 8:30pm.

He reported the incident to Gardaí but there was no garda presence at the time in the Twin Towns, Donegal’s third largest urban centre. He later confronted the youths, who were local, and said they ‘just laughed’ at him.

There were also numerous reports of fireworks being constantly let-off in residential areas over the weekend. It is illegal for the general public to possess, use, sell, or import most types of fireworks (such as bangers, rockets, and roman candles) without a special commercial or professional licence.

A spokesperson for the Garda Press Office said “no reports have been received at this office”.

The latest incidents come after a young boy was seriously injured by a firework in Buncrana on Halloween night. The alarming incident, which saw the victim suffer injuries to his hands and face, occurred around 7.00pm in the Marian Park area of the town.

The incident came in the wake of a warning by local Gardaí about the dangers posed by fireworks.
