Oooo, Olivia Rodrigo gives really good parent now. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend parallels aside, in Rodrigo’s first Christmas song, she sings about waiting for the day her muse shows her some serious commitment by taking her to his parents’ home for the holidays, because she’s really good at impressing parents. “Wanna get drunk with your mother and father/I’d be the coolest in-law daughter,” she sings. “Hungover brunch with you and your sister/Your exes got the summer/But boy I get the winter.” And who wouldn’t be impressed with Rodrigo after a very successful Daisy Chain Fields festival and a stellar third album? She just really wants committment. And to meet your mom, if she’s Cynthia Nixon.

The accompanying music video, out now, finds Rodrigo cleaning up after a party at her boyfriend’s apartment (Ben Marshall) while fantasizing about meeting his family, which includes his mother, Nixon. A perfect mother/son casting, if you ask me. As a true Sex and the City fan, she playfully references the scene in And Just Like That… in which Miranda (Nixon) catches Lily (Charlotte’s daughter) in her underwear as she comes out of her son Brady’s room. History repeats itself.
