Sense and Sensibility (1995): Before the recent Daisy Edgar-Jones adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel, there was this ’90s version that proved a landmark of the genre.

Described as a “perfect film” by one fan on IMDb, Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet lead the cast as Dashwood sisters Elinor and Marianne, the story following their romances as their family’s lives are upended by the death of their father.

Thompson also wrote the movie’s screenplay, earning her a screenwriting Oscar and her second Academy Award – becoming the first person to win the prestigious awards for acting and writing.

Based on EM Forster’s novel of the same name, the Edwardian-set story is one of romance and inheritance, exploring themes around class in British society.
