‘Pretty Little Liars” stars Lucy Hale and Ian Harding are back together for a holiday romance, “The 12 Dates of Christmas.”
Hale told PauseRewind’s Elizabeth Stanton it was a “dream come true” for the duo to work together again.
“I think we’d always wanted to reconnect in some way in a different project, and we did it,” she continued. “I mean, this feel feels like the perfect project to reconnect with. It’s very tonally, it’s very different from ‘PLL.’”
Hale added that though they technically had more time together on “Pretty Little Liars,” for the movie it “felt like we could actually get more into a rhythm. We had like a bit more to play around with, and it was fun to have banter because we didn’t really get to have that on ‘PLL.’”
Harding agreed, saying, “I’m so grateful and we love ‘PLL,’ but it was also like you know it’s TV, you really have to stick with the script because we’re thinking about like five episodes down the line and so there wasn’t much straying from the script and from the words whereas this you know, we you know kept in the scene, but we got to play and add our own stuff, and there was I think more of a back and forth that felt fun and new.”
In “The 12 Dates of Christmas,” Hale plays Christina, a successful shop owner who has put dating by the wayside while focusing on her career. After pressure from her family to find a partner, she decides to go on 12 dates leading up to Christmas to find Mr. Right, even though Mr. Right (Harding’s character) might be right in front of her.
Christina’s dates vary wildly from a mama’s boy to a ventriloquist to a dog lover and everything in between, some of which Hale and Harding thought they could handle if they had to.
“I mean, I love my dogs. So, like, a guy that loves his dog a little too much, I’m like, there’s some things that’s a little bit creepy. But like, can you really love a dog too much?” Hale joked. “But I think that like the ultimate dog lover, I could deal with that.”
Harding said, “I think with the having one’s mother there, I think if I were on the receiving end of like the date is going well and then all of a sudden this person’s parent shows up, I think mom or dad it would change the dynamic a little bit. But I think you could probably survive that, and you could live with that, and be like, oh well, actually, this we killed two birds with one stone here. At least I know what I’m kind of getting into.”
