Nicole Kidman sat down for an interview just weeks before her and Keith Urban’s divorce was confirmed and she shared insight into how she views change.

During an interview with Vogue, Kidman alluded to facing a new chapter in life, saying, “How many times do you have to be taught that you think you know where your life is going, and then it isn’t going in that direction?”

The “Big Little Lies” actress also reflected on what exactly it meant to protect her peace in other facets of her life, including opting not to attend the 2024 Venice Film Festival, where she was to be awarded best actress, after the death of her mother, Janelle Kidman.

“Everyone was saying, ‘You’ve still got to go and accept the award. And I just sat for a minute and I went, ‘No, I can’t, I don’t, and I won’t.’ My sense of duty and of being a good girl is so strong. At this ageI’m protecting myself when I need to. It’s my right—as Virginia Woolf used to say—it’s my right as a human being.”

Since her public separation, the Oscar winner has remained mum on the matter, even at her first public appearance, since the news broke.

Nicole and Keith have been married since 2006 and have two children, Sunday Rose, 16 and Faith Margaret, 14.
