Warning: This article contains spoilers for Wednesday season 2!

Wednesday season 2’s shocking Gomez Addams reveal completely abandons his former backstory and removes his biggest difference from his family. Wednesday has explored many Outcast powers, but Gomez has been notably missing from those ranks as the only Outcast who seemingly has no power.

While Gomez Addams’ unusual behaviors make him akin to classic Addams Family characters, this did set him apart from Wednesday’s other characters. However, the ending of Wednesday season 2 completely changes Gomez’s backstory, revealing that he previously possessed the same power as Pugsley and Uncle Fester in a surprising twist.

Gomez’s Powers Backstory Removes The Deeper Meaning Of Him Being An Outcast In His Own Family

After Gomez Addams was previously framed as being the only member of the Addams Family without a power in both Wednesday seasons 1 and 2, season 2’s ending has completely changes the narrative. While it is a great way of tying the Addams Family to the season’s big villain, it does change how Gomez is perceived both by audiences and his own family.

While viewers always knew that both Pugsley and Uncle Fester had the power of electrokinesis, Wednesday always implied that it skipped over Gomez. Instead, Wednesday season 2 confirms that Gomez did have powers, and they were stripped from him by Isaac Night during an experiment.

This is undoubtedly a huge family secret, but it also changes where Gomez falls within the Outcast community. Previously, his lack of powers made him an outcast among other Outcasts, even within his own powerful family. This worked for the series because it highlighted just how loved he was, even in his differences from them.

Now, the perception of Gomez Addams and his place within the Addams Family has shifted because audiences know that he previously had powers. This revelation also raises whether those powers could be restored, leaving a thread open for Wednesday season 3 to explore.

Gomez’s power twist is a huge family secret that Morticia and Gomez have kept from their family for so many years, and it fits well with the other family secrets that the series explores. Even though the reveal is a huge shock for Wednesday, Morticia does outline why the couple chose to keep it secret.

After sharing what really happened when she and Gomez were students at Nevermore, Morticia reveals that Augustus Stonehurst threatened them into keeping silent. Even more importantly, Morticia also tells Wednesday that she didn’t want to put her in danger, knowing that the truth would only make her daughter more curious.

In addition to Morticia choosing to keep the secret to protect her family, Gomez later reveals that they also kept the secret to spare Thing, since he never knew that he was previously Isaac Night’s right hand. In short, Wednesday confirms that Gomez and Morticia Addams decided to keep the secret to protect those around them.
