Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Wednesday’s episode (15 October), which is available to watch now on streaming service Channel 4 and hasn’t yet aired on TV.

Hollyoaks’ Darren Osborne goes to desperate lengths to carry out his deadly revenge on Tony Hutchinson for his betrayal in the final episode before the show’s 30th anniversary week. But on his way, he comes across a character that we never thought we’d see again…

As Darren’s drinking and gambling continued to spiral out of control, he answered Mercedes’ phone this week and the mysterious caller offered to put out a hit on Tony.

It turns out that the person on the other end of the phone was Warren, and in today’s episode the pair met up to discuss the plan.

Darren realised he didn’t have the money to pay for such an expensive request, but Warren suggested that he plays a poker game in town with high stakes to get the cash.

Around the table, Darren explained that Tony is the biological father of Nancy’s daughter Morgan, and he wants him dead so he never finds out about the paternity.

Unfortunately, Darren lost even more money in the poker game and was left with no way of paying for the hit on Tony.

As he headed out of the building, Darren saw the missed calls and texts on his phone from Nancy – but this faded into the background when he spotted none other than James Nightingale.

Of course, James was supposedly killed off when he and Ste were involved in a car explosion in the final episode before the show’s time jump.

Ste was in a coma for over a year, but when he regained consciousness, he was told that his beloved husband hadn’t survived the explosion.

For this reason, drunken Darren demanded answers from James about where he had been and how he was still alive.

James urged him to keep quiet, and Darren agreed that his secret would stay with him – if he gave him the money he needs.

Meanwhile back in the village, oblivious Ste ended up talking to Leela about James. He said that he’d had to put all his feelings for James in a box after his death and couldn’t open it again.

The next day, James drove Darren back to the village and handed over the wad of cash, with Darren assuring that he won’t tell anyone about this unexpected sighting.

Peri saw James driving away and immediately recognised him, but Darren convinced her that he was a business acquaintance who just looked similar.

Darren then called Warren and told him that he now has the money and demanded that the hit be put out on Tony today – on his wedding day.

Warren said goodbye to mysterious Gemma – with the assurance that he’d be back ‘later’ – and headed to the village to cause some chaos.

Will Warren really kill Tony – and how on earth is James still alive?
