A rising young screen star from Letterkenny will be appearing in a new Channel 4 series coming to our screens this year.

Eleven-year-old Daithí Ó Haragáin, son of Paul Ó Haragáin and Una Ni Bhriain, acts alongside Lola Petticrew in Trespasses, a forbidden love story set in 1975 against the backdrop of the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

The series also stars Gillian Anderson (Scoop, Sex Education) and Tom Cullen (The Gold, Weekend).

Last year Daithí featured in Say Nothing, the hugely popular Disney+ drama produced by FX, which also starred Lola Petticrew.

A pupil of Gaelscoil Adhamhnáin, Daithí hones his skills with the Encore Performance Arts Academy and is proudly represented by their talent agency – Thompson & Borland by Rebecca Thompson and Laura Borland.

Excitement is building for the release of Trespasses, a four-part series based on Louise Kennedy’s breakout debut novel.

The story follows Cushla, a sparky young woman whose desires and dreams have been frustrated by the grind of daily life. Catholic schoolteacher Cushla then meets Michael, an older Protestant married man, who often defends IRA suspects and is friends with cultured Bohemians who enrage and intrigue Cushla. Worlds apart, Cushla knows a relationship like this spells all kinds of trouble, but they are irresistibly drawn to one another.

According to Encore Performing Arts Academy, “Daithi plays the role of Davy Mc Geown, a young boy in Cushla’s class whose family becomes central to the escalating tensions of the troubles. Cushla’s relationship with Davy McGeown is one of a caring teacher and a vulnerable student from a mixed-religion family during The Troubles. Cushla takes Davy under her wing, providing him with support and trying to protect him from the bullying and persecution his family faces due to their mixed Catholic and Protestant background. This protective relationship becomes dangerously complicated when Davy’s father is attacked, and Cushla becomes involved with his family’s troubles, ultimately leading to severe consequences for her and her family.”

Filming for Trespasses wrapped in Belfast in December, with a release date due to be confirmed.
