The NSW Government could let pharmacists prescribe S4 antivirals for influenza, having already locked in pharmacist diagnosis and treatment of impetigo, shingles, dermatitis and psoriasis.
Despite not expecting to receive an evaluation report until 2026, NSW Premier Chris Minns announced on Friday that a 12-month pilot of pharmacists treating skin conditions with S4 drugs would become business as usual (see medicines list below).
“This is an important part of our work to build a fairer system for the people of NSW, removing red tape and making it much simpler to access medications,” Mr Minns said.
“By enabling pharmacists to help manage common conditions, we are increasing access to care and relieving pressure on our GPs and the public hospital system.”
