DAYTON — Larry Hansgen, WHIO Radio’s host of Miami Valley’s Morning News, has been honored with a Marconi Radio Award from the National Association of Broadcasters. This award is among the most prestigious in the radio industry.

“To be nominated for this award is a very prestigious honor,” said Nick Roberts, WHIO Radio Station Manager. “To win is a once-in-a-lifetime. This just reinforces how our employees really care about making the community a better place. Working at one radio station for a decade is a feat. To be at WHIO since 1981 puts Larry in rarefied air in broadcasting.”

The 2025 Marconi Radio Award for “Medium Market Personality of the Year” was presented to Hansgen on “radio’s biggest night,” at The Edison Ballroom in New York, New York. WHIO Radio was honored with two nominations in the same category: Larry Hansgen for Miami Valley’s Morning News and Todd Hollst for the Evening Edge.

Upon receiving the award, Hansgen said, “I love my job. I love the people with whom I work and the wonderful community I serve.”

Hansgen has hosted Miami Valley’s Morning News since 2003. Among WHIO Radio’s most tenured employees, Hansgen began as an overnight board operator in 1981. Rising through the ranks, he was quickly promoted to Sports Director, and since that time has become the voice of the University of Dayton basketball and football.

“Larry is a pillar of the radio community,” said Darren Moore, Senior Vice President of Sales and General Manager of Cox Media Group Ohio. “He loves Dayton and that really comes through in the exemplary way he serves listeners.”
