The Garda Armed Response Unit rushed to the scene of a domestic dispute that got out of hand in a rural Wexford village on Monday night.
There was a flurry of activity around The Old Post Office in Mayglass as armed gardai moved to apprehend a 24-year-old man who was in possession of two knives and was acting aggressively, having slashed the tyres of a parked car.
The man, who was described as being “highly intoxicated” and “erratic” is also accused of assaulting a female with a wine bottle and using a knife to threaten the owner of the damaged car, who is described as being of “no connection” to the aggressor and was just visiting the area.
Armed gardaí and several squad cars responded to the incident and the man was eventually arrested and taken into custody st Wexford Garda Station before being charged with possession of a knife, assault and criminal damage to the car.
He is due before Wexford District Court in relation to the incident.
