Coronation Street‘s returning star Catherine Tyldesley has teased a big change in tone that’s set to delight fans of the ITV soap.

Tyldesley has been announced to reprise the role of Eva Price, joining a new family that is set to take over the Rovers after Jenny Bradley’s exit.

Weighing in on her Coronation Street return, the soap star praised producer Kate Brooks for bringing back the “old school” Corrie feel to the new episodes.

“She’s a huge fan of the show and I really feel that she is instilling that into her work, you can feel it and I can see it when I’m watching other people’s scenes,” the actor told the Mirror.

“It feels like old school Corrie and that is hugely important to other people,” she continued.

Praising Brooks, Tyldesley added: “I think what Kate and the writing team are bringing to the table, there is so much that they’re doing that hasn’t really been done before.”

“Every script I’m getting is like, ‘Oh my god, can you believe that they are gonna do this?’ And it works. Rooted at the heart of that is Kate’s want to have that old school Coronation Street feel.”

Tyldesley also gave some more details about the “dead exciting” Coronation Street and Emmerdale crossover, branded Corriedale, which has now started filming before airing early next year.

“It’s just dead exciting. I just can’t help but imagine what my mum’s gonna be like watching this episode,” the star said.

“She’ll be so beside herself, because, as a soap fan, the idea of sitting down watching your two favourite shows with all your favourite characters interact in this massive, unmissable piece of telly, it’s just amazing.”

The two soaps have just confirmed the first two characters involved in the crossover event.

Corrie’s DI Lisa Swain, played by Vicky Myers, and Emmerdale’s Aaron Dingle, portrayed by Danny Miller, are the first two stars who have started filming on the joint scenes, with more soap icons to follow suit.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
