NEW YORK — A Filipino-Canadian green card holder has been sentenced to seven years in prison for multiple counts of health care fraud in the United States.
U.S. District Judge Susan Wigenton of the District of New Jersey handed down the sentence against Dr. Alexander Baldonado, who was found guilty of orchestrating fraudulent schemes involving laboratory testing and medical equipment reimbursements.
According to court documents, Baldonado was convicted on February 10, 2025, of health care fraud, conspiracy to commit health care fraud, conspiracy to defraud the United States, and for offering, paying, soliciting, and receiving health care kickbacks through laboratory testing and durable medical equipment, as well as solicitation of health care kickbacks.
Judge Wigenton sentenced Baldonado to 84 months (seven years) of imprisonment for each of Counts One through Seven and Count Ten, and 60 months (five years) for Counts Eight and Nine, all to be served concurrently—meaning he will serve a total of seven years behind bars.
Following his release, Baldonado will be under three years of supervised release, covering all counts concurrently.
The court also ordered him to pay a special assessment fee of $1,000, due immediately, and restitution totaling $2,210,384.05, also payable immediately.
Additionally, the court’s decision noted that Dr. Baldonado is to cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in connection with his case. — RF, GMA Integrated News
