Gardaí also seized 87 vehicles from learner permit holders, who were driving unaccompanied, throughout the weekend.
It comes as the Garda roads policing operation was in place from 7am on Thursday until 7am on Tuesday during the October Bank Holiday weekend.
During this period, they detected more than 3,000 drivers exceeding speed limits.
Gardaí caught a motorist travelling 174kmh in a 100kmh zone on the N24 at Caherconlish in Limerick.
Another driver was detected speeding 127kmh in a 60kmh zone on N15 at Stranorlar, Co Donegal.
A motorist in Broadford, Co Kildare, was caught travelling 134kmh in an 80kmh zone on R148, while a driver in Santry, Co Dublin, was travelling 91kmh in a 50kmh zone.
There was one fatality on Irish roads during this period, while eight people were seriously injured in seven serious collisions.
A man, aged in his 60s, was killed in a two-car crash on the R725, Rath East, Shillelagh, Co Wicklow, on Friday evening.
Gardaí also issued fixed charge notices to 300 drivers for using their mobile phones, while more than 80 motorists were caught without seatbelts on, and over 345 vehicles were seized for having no tax or insurance.
Meanwhile, 153 people were arrested for suspected driving under the influence, as gardaí conducted 820 mandatory intoxicant testing checkpoints, including more than 4,790 breath tests and around 215 oral fluid tests.
Gardaí have appealed to all road users to never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, slow down and always choose an appropriate speed to the driving conditions.
They have also called on motorists to wear seatbelts and not use their mobile phones while driving.
