Netflix is gearing up for more magic from the creator of Black Mirror. New details are emerging about Charlie Brooker’s next project, with Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon and Barbarian actors already lined up to star.

Deadline reveals that Brooker will launch a currently untitled four-part detective series starring Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon), Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) and Georgina Campbell (Barbarian). The logline reveals it to be a “profoundly serious, stunningly original crime thriller in which a tormented detective from the Northern city of Bleakford ventures down to London on a mission to catch a ritualistic serial killer before they run out of people to kill. Contains blood and frowning.”

A comedic quote from Brooker reveals that the logline’s ‘serious’ nature might not be quite as grim as it appears on the surface. “I’m beyond thrilled to be saying these words for the press release. I’ve dreamt of providing a quote ever since I was a young foetus, and now here I am doing it,” Brooker said. “I’d pinch myself, but like all of us, I’m terrified that if I do that, I might wake up and discover 2025 has all been a magical dream. Please watch my show. I am begging you.”

Further details about the show were not made immediately available. Brooker created the series and co-wrote it with Ben Caudell, Jason Hazeley, Emer Kenny, Daniel Maier and Joel Morris. Additional material was provided by Victoria Asare Archer. Brooker will executive produce with Black Mirror‘s Annabel Jones and Jessica Rhoades, while Mark Kinsella will serve as co-executive producer. Richard Webb will also produce, with Al Campbell directing.

Netflix is set to produce the series, rather than it being made for any specific British production company. The news comes after the success of Brooker’s Black Mirror, which Netflix picked up in 2015 after its initial UK run. The anthology series has become one of the streaming giant’s staple titles, scoring multiple Primetime Emmy Awards and numerous other prestigious accolades.

Black Mirror Has Yet to Receive a Season 8 Renewal

News of Brooker’s new deal to produce a detective series for Netflix likely bodes well for fans of Black Mirror, proving that the creator’s relationship with the streaming giant is still on good terms. Nonetheless, Black Mirror has yet to officially score a Season 8 renewal, following Season 7’s premiere in April.

The latest season of Black Mirror was well received by critics and audiences, earning a Certified Fresh rating of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. The new season saw episodes starring Issa Rae, Peter Capaldi, and Paul Giamatti while also continuing the story of one of the franchise’s most praised episodes: ‘USS Callister.’

Black Mirror is now streaming on Netflix.
