The parish of Gaoth Dobhair has extended its thanks to neighbouring Church of Ireland parishes for supporting the rebuild of St Mary’s Church, Derrybeg.
St Mary’s Church, which serves the parish of Gaoth Dobhair, was destroyed after a fire broke out in the early hours of Easter Monday in April this year.
“We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the local Church of Ireland parishes of Bunbeg, Dungloe, and Carrickfinn, who so kindly supported the St. Mary’s Rebuild Fund at their recent Harvest Thanksgiving,” shared Paróiste Ghaoth Dobhair. “Your generosity and friendship mean so much to us, and we are truly grateful for your solidarity and kindness. Together, we are building more than a church, we are strengthening our shared community.”
A GoFundMe page was swiftly set up in the aftermath of the fire to help rebuild the church and has raised over €141,000 so far.
A fundraising night was also held in Teach Phaidí Óig in Crolly earlier this year, with musicians Daniel O’Donnell, Moya Brennan and Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh all taking to the stage to support the cause.
