Blackpool Shopping Centre is to celebrate its 25th anniversary in style – with a €1.5m investment to upgrade its look and facilities.
Owners Lugus Capital, co-founded by Cork businessman Peter Horgan, have begun an investment programme that has so far seen the retiling of the entire mall. The next phase, to start in the New Year, will see new shopfronts, seating areas, lighting and facelifted communal areas to make for a more pleasent shopping experience.
Roger Dineen, Head of CRE in Lugus Capital said: “Our vision is to position Blackpool Shopping Centre and Retail Park as a best-in-class retail destination in Cork and Munster. This investment demonstrates our commitment to modernising the physical environment while also ensuring that our retailers and customers enjoy the highest quality shopping experience.”
John Hartnett, Centre Manager of Blackpool Shopping Centre, added: “Blackpool Shopping Centre has been at the heart of the community in Blackpool for 25 years. This investment marks a new era for one of Cork’s most established retail centres, and ensures we will continue to serve our shoppers in a vibrant and welcoming setting. We’re excited to see the centre evolve while maintaining the friendly, accessible, and community-focused atmosphere that our customers value, and have grown to expect”.
Since being acquired by Lugus Capital and Patron Capital in 2024, Blackpool Shopping Centre and Retail Park has welcomed a number of new retail outlets, including JD Sports, Eason, Hugmie, Jysk, and Kerry Hanaphy Aesthetics.
Blackpool Shopping Centre is anchored by Dunnes Stores and includes 45 units shops including well-known brands such as McCauleys Pharmacy, Eason, Peter Mark, Neville Jewellers, Cardfactory, Eurogiant, Bagel Factory and Insomnia.
