There will be no increase in the state pension age during the lifetime of this government, Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe has promised.

Even as a report from his department showed Ireland is facing severe demographic difficulties and that nearly half of all public expenditure will be on age-related issues within 40 years, Mr Donohoe said this will not be tackled by raising the current retirement age from 66.
