The incident occured sometime between 12 midnight and 2.20am in Toomevara, Nenagh

Carmel Hackett, who was involved in the single-vehicle crash in Toomevara, Nenagh, was from the locality.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which occurred sometime between 12 midnight and 2.20am on Sunday morning.

“The sole occupant of the car, a woman in her 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” a Garda spokesperson said.

The Coroner was notified and the woman’s body was removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick, where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.

Fiann Fáil Councillor for Nenagh, JP O’Meara, said: “Everyone in the parish and in the area of Toomevara is deeply shocked and saddened at her sudden passing.

“My thoughts and prayers to everyone in her family and everyone affected by her bereavement.”

Labour Councillor for Nenagh Louise Morgan Walsh said: “It’s devastating news. My thoughts are with the family on their devastating loss.”

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were traveling in the area between 12 midnight and 2.30am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

Meanwhile, in Birdhill, a man was killed in a single-vehicle car crash on Sunday morning.

The sole occupant of the car, aged in his 40s, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the incident.

The Coroner was notified and the deceased has been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick, where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were traveling on the R445 at Birdhill, Tipperary, between 10pm last night and 8am this morning are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
