A woman has died after being a collision involving a vehicle in Mallow, Co Cork yesterday.

The woman was fatally injured in the incident, after being struck by a car in the townland of Ballyellis, just southeast of Mallow town. The incident occurred yesterday evening at around 6pm and it’s understood the woman died at the scene. The woman had interacted with Gardaí shortly before she died.

The incident has been referred to Fiosrú, Office of the Police Ombudsman. A referral was made by a Garda Superintendent under the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act.

A spokesperson confirmed one of Fiosrú’s on call team of investigators attended the scene last night. The team are engaging with the family concerned in the tragic incident.

The spokesperson told CorkBeo in a statement: “Fiosrú, the Office of the Police Ombudsman received a referral from An Garda Síochána on Tuesday, 11 November 2025.

“The referral was made by a Garda Superintendent under section 203(1) of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act, 2024. The referral was made following a fatal road incident during a Garda interaction in the County Cork Division.

“One of Fiosrú’s on call team of investigators attended the scene. The team have and will continue to engage with the family concerned.” They added that the matter is now under investigation.

Fiosrú, the Office of the Police Ombudsman, deals with complaints from the public where they have concerns about Garda members. Fiosrú took over from the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) in April this year.

It deals with complaints concerning Garda conduct, and also conducts investigations into circumstances where it appears that the conduct of a Garda, or Gardaí, may have resulted in death or serious harm to a person. Such incidents are referred to Fiosrú by An Garda Síochána.
