Piltown Community Group has been crowned winner in the Area with a Population of 1,000–2,000 category at the All-Ireland Pride of Place Awards.
The ceremony took place on Friday, November 7th, in Limerick.

The judges praised the South Kilkenny village as “vibrant, forward-thinking, inclusive, and resilient.” They said Piltown’s projects show “disciplined planning, strong partnerships, and community pride that delivers practical improvements for residents.”

Revitalising the Old Garda Station

One major achievement is the renovation of the old Garda Station in Piltown.

In partnership with Kilkenny County Council, the Office of Public Works, and An Garda Síochána, the group developed a new remote working and community hub.

The hub provides modern workspace options while preserving an important heritage building.

Broadband for the Community

Piltown also made history through its Broadband 4 Our Community (B4OC) project, Ireland’s first community-owned fibre broadband network.

Profits are reinvested into local initiatives, ensuring that technology directly supports rural growth and sustainability.

Inclusive Play and Recreation Spaces

The Pil River Park and Playground stands as a testament to the area’s inclusive vision.

It offers high-quality play equipment and a sensory garden, designed to be accessible for all children.

The park has become a hub of community life and outdoor fun.

Supporting Local Sports

The group also collaborated with Piltown AFC to upgrade club facilities.

With grants and local fundraising, the football grounds now feature a new walkway, lighting, and secure fencing.

These upgrades make the venue safer and more welcoming for players and supporters.

Celebrating Heritage and the Iverk Show

Piltown is home to the historic Iverk Show, one of Ireland’s oldest agricultural events.

The show will mark its 200th anniversary in 2026, reflecting centuries of community pride and tradition.
