New UHK public health campaign “wholly insulting”

The language of a new public health campaign from the HSE to tackle issues in UHK is “wholly insulting”.

That’s according to member of the Regional Health Forum South, Cllr. Deirdre Ferris, speaking about the campaign to prevent overcrowding in wards and ED delays.

The “Caring for Kerry” campaign urges patients not to overstay at the hospital, once their treatment is finished.

The HSE says UHK does not provide residential care.

While Cllr. Ferris sees the merit in the campaign, she feels that it is wrongly placing the blame on patients for ED delays and trolley numbers.

She says it would be a failing on the medical system to send elderly patients home from acute care with no support systems, and more needs to be done to improve further care pathways.
