The magic of her native tongue has inspired Bray author Sadhbh Devlin to tell such powerful stories that one is now the first in Irish to be shortlisted for a major award

“Vote for me!!” Sadhbh Devlin (née Gallagher) makes no apology for soliciting support from wherever she can find it. The Bray author’s An Fia Sa Choill is on the shortlist in the junior children’s section of the An Post Book of the Year Awards.

Remarkably, it is the first Irish language book to reach this stage of the scheme since it was initiated 20 years ago and she is understandably proud as punch. She has been in touch with almost everyone she knows, urging them all to vote before the looming deadline on November 15. The results will be announced on November 22.
