The controversial proposal from An Post to move mail operations  in both Barnatra and Ballyhaunis to more central mail sorting offices in Ballina and Castlerea respectively was raised in the Dail last night.

It was submitted by Erris based Sinn Fein deputy Rose Conway Walsh  under Topical issues with with the Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport .

Deputy Conway Walsh says the Minister, on behalf of the government, more or less washed its hands of An Post’s plans, however, she insists that’s not acceptable as An Post is a state company.

She says it’s her view, from the Minister’s reply, that the transfer of mail sorting from Ballyhaunis to Castlerea is a “done deal”, while the Barnatra case is still “under consideration”.
