After reporting a significant slowdown in cholera cases just a couple of months ago, health officials in Angola are now reporting a resurgence in the epidemic that has plagued the country this year.

For example, during the first week of September, 52 new suspected cases and one death was reported. However, during the last week of October, 768 new suspected cholera cases and 9 deaths were reported.

According to the Ministry of Health, Angola has seen 34,445 total cholera cases and 874 deaths, with a case fatality rate of 2.5%, from 18 of the countries 21 provinces through November 12, 2025.

In 2024, Angola reported no cholera cases.

In Africa as a whole, they are seeing the worst cholera outbreak in a quarter century, according to the Africa CDC.

The Africa CDC said it had recorded about 300,000 cases of cholera, and suspected cases of cholera, and over 7,000 deaths. The figures show a more than 30% increase on total cases recorded last year.

Countries reporting the most cases include South Sudan (77,000), the Democratic Republic of the Congo (59,000) and Angola, all reporting tens of thousands cases in 2025.
