Friends say they want to tie the knot in Rome next month

Conor McGregor and his fiancee Dee Devlin are secretly planning to get married before Christmas.
Friends say they want to tie the knot in Rome and are looking to marry in either the world famous St Peter’s Basilica or the Cappella del Caro, a small church right next to it which can hold 100 people.
They had wanted to marry in the world famous Sistine Chapel, where Popes are elected but the Vatican does not allow weddings there.
It is understood December 12 is the date currently being mooted but it is not set in stone.
McGregor, 37, and Dee, 38, first met in 2008 and got officially engaged on August 8, 2020 just before her 33rd birthday.

The couple have four children together – one girl and three boys – and live when they are in Ireland in Straffan, Co Kildare. His mum lives in a house next door to them.
Dee has stuck by McGregor through thick and thin, especially after last year’s high profile High Court case when a jury found him guilty of sexually assaulting Nikita Hand.
The MMA fighter denied the allegations and claimed the sexual contact was consensual but the courts didn’t believe him. He lost an appeal against the verdict last July.
He had to pay Ms Hand €248,000 in damages and substantial legal fees.

The case did serious damage to his reputation both at home and abroad. A number of brands including his very own Proper No Twelve whiskey which he created and later sold, also disowned him.
It also prevented him getting on the ticket to stand in the recent Presidential election.

A McGregor source said: “Conor and Dee want to get married before Christmas and are planning a wedding at the Vatican in Rome.
“They are both staunch Catholics and it is their dream to wed there. They ideally would like to marry in the Sistine Chapel but it is not allowed so they may have to settle for the Cappella del Caro which can accomodate 100 people beside St Peter’s Basilica.
“It is all hush hush at the moment but December 12 is the date mentioned so we will have to wait and see.”

Couples are allowed to marry in St Peter’s Basilica on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 10.30am daily. Many Irish people marry there.
Weddings are not permitted on Wednesdays because that is the day his holiness the Pope holds his weekly mass and audience.
McGregor was due back in the High Court last week in the row with his former sparring partner Artem Lobov over an alleged oral deal for a five per cent share in his Proper No Twelve whiskey.
Whiskey expert and business graduate Lobov claimed McGregor promised him the equity for all the work he did in helping to set up the fighter’s whiskey brand.
The case was adjourned after a key witness, a financial advisor who worked for McGregor could not appear because of ill health. The case is unlikely to go ahead until March or April next year.
