Alien fans have been given one of the best entries in the franchise thanks to Alien: Earth, and while the huge success of the first TV show in the saga that began with Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi classic, it is usually never a given that Season 2 will happen for even the most well-received shows. However, while no official renewal has been confirmed, Noah Hawley is already well on the way to developing the continuation after his “proof of concept” first season.
Speaking with Evolution of Horror, Hawley shared a new Season 2 update that will certainly have fans hyped for the future of the series, and for the Alien franchise in general. Hawley said of whether he knows where Season 2 could go:
“I do. I do. I mean, I think that I have a destination in mind story-wise, which allows me to know what the story is I’m telling, what it means. And I don’t know how long it takes to get there, but I do have a sense of where we go in success. And you know, the question becomes: how streamlined can we make the process so that you’re not waiting for three, or four, or five years for more?”
Alien: Earth is set 10 years before the events surrounding the Nostromo that kicked off the franchise over 45 years ago. That means there is still plenty of scope to expand the series into several more seasons. If the viewing figures remain high, and the series continues to deliver the same kind of thrills and action of Season 1, then there is every likelihood of that happening.
‘Alien: Earth’ Could Run for Many More Seasons
One of the greatest things about Alien: Earth is something very similar to what made Monarch: Legacy of Monsters one of the best Godzilla/MonsterVerse projects when it debuted on Apple TV+. The series has its creatures, but it has a well-constructed story about the people, both human and otherwise, and the world they inhabit that does not rely on constant alien attacks.
That means, when the variety of alien creatures featured in the show alongside the classic facehuggers and xenomorphs do appear and cause bloody mayhem, it is so much more satisfying for it. This was displayed best in Episode 5, which many have called the greatest hour in the entire franchise. The episode provides a flashback to the events that led up to the crashing of the ship that brought a number of alien species to Earth, and plays out like its own mini-movie. As well as featuring some of the expected brutal alien kills, the episode, knowingly entitled “In Space, No One” as a nod to the tagline from Alien, packs its time with a tense, suspense-building momentum that grips from the start and does not let go.
This article may have started by noting that a second season of Alien: Earth is not guaranteed to happen. That being said, there would have to be a very good reason for us not to be seeing more of this part of the Alien universe again.
