The new Gardaí attestation numbers are welcome news for the country, but not for the west. That’s according to Achill-based Councilor Paul McNamara.
Last week, 194 new Gardaí were attested, the largest graduating class since 2019. However, of the nearly 200 new probationers, only 21 have been deployed to the North Western Region, the lowest for any region.
There are no new members of the force allocated to cover the Mayo/Roscommon/Longford region either, and of the 20 new reserves, only one has been appointed to Castlebar.
Now, Councilor McNamara is saying that the numbers situation is “unacceptable”, and that Achill is still waiting to fill a vacant post. He joined Midwest Radio’s Rowan Kelly earlier on Morning Edition…
