Jennifer Lopez Heightens the Drama in Voluminous Tamara Ralph Gown for the Governors Awards 2025 Red Carpet

Theatricality was the aesthetic theme Jennifer Lopez channeled in her Tamara Ralph gown for the 2025 Governors Awards red carpet in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

The “Kiss of the Spider Woman” actress turned to styling team Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn, who curated Lopez’s Tamara Ralph fall 2025 couture collection look. The gown featured fabric contrast, with a black velvety material juxtaposed with a light mocha satin.

The strapless dress featured a sweetheart neckline with a corseted bodice and laced-up back detailing. Adorning the hips of the gown were gathered pieces of light mocha fabric, creating a voluminous skirt with a flowing train and dramatic appeal.

Lopez heightened the drama further with a pair of long black opera gloves. She carried a clutch by Tyler Ellis and wore statement pearl and diamond earrings courtesy of Chopard. Makeup artist Scott Barnes provided Lopez with a glossy lip, among other beauty highlights, while Lorenzo Martin styled Lopez’s hari in a tousled, side-swept bun. Tom Bachik provided the tech for Lopez’s nails.

The Art Deco movement of the 1920s and ’30s served as the inspiration behind Ralph’s fall 2025 couture collection, which debuted on the runway as part of Paris Couture Week in July. “Beaded creations with teardrop crystals evoked chandeliers, while sculptural pieces were embellished with strings of giant pearls and crystal mesh body-hugging designs evoked slinky reverberations of disco balls,” Alex Wynne wrote in WWD’s review of the collection.

“Among the most striking looks, the geometric patterns of designs sculpted from hundreds of bugle sequins were fitting tributes to Art Deco design in its centenary year,” Wynne wrote.

Finding a surge of popularity in the mid-1920s, the Art Deco movement celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. As such, several celebrations from museum exhibits in Paris and and Mumbai to hotel stays and activations across the globe take place.

Presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, the 2025 Governors Awards honored longtime industry titans for their contributions to cinema. Actor Tom Cruise, production designer Wynn Thomas and actress Debbie Allen accepted honorary Oscars, while Dolly Parton was awarded the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
