Diana Penty recalls feeling the pressure to be more polite and friendly
Actress Diana Penty is gearing up for the release of her upcoming series ‘Do You Wanna Partner’ with Tamannaah Bhatia. In a recent interview, she opened up about people advising her to change her personality and be more likable, when she had just started her acting career. As someone who was naturally introverted, she tried to follow the advice, but found it extremely exhausting to act like someone she wasn’t. She then shared that she reached a point where she embraced her true personality, even if that meant not getting certain roles.
Diana Penty On Feeling The Pressure To Be More Friendly
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Diana Penty recalled people advising her to be more approachable and say the right things. “When I started out in the industry, there were all these different people from different places telling me how I needed to be in order to survive. I’ve always been a bit shy, a bit of an introvert, not much of a people’s person, per se. So I tried to take their advice — be easier to talk to, walk into a room a certain way, say the right things. I attempted it, and after many years I realised it was such an effort. It was exhausting to be somebody that you’re not,” she said.
Diana Penty recalled finally realizing that she didn’t need to change her personality, and if that meant losing a film because of who she is, she was okay with it. “Eventually I was just like, screw that. I’m going to be me. Take it or leave it. If that means stupid jokes every now and then, or being sarcastic — that’s who I am. People don’t always get it, and I kept feeling this pressure to be more polite, more affable, more friendly. But after a point I realised it’s not sustainable in the long run. It took a toll on me,” she said.
She further added, “If you don’t want to give me a film because of the kind of person I am, then it doesn’t matter to you what kind of actor I am. And that’s fine.” She said that she decided to be her authentic self, which meant that she may not be liked by too many people, but she is at peace with that.
