Sammy Hanrahan (18) passed away in the hospital on Friday.
The incident occurred on the Cork Road in Waterford City at approximately 7.45pm on Sunday, November 16. The rider of the e-scooter died in hospital on Friday.
He has been named as Sammy Hanrahan (18) of Clonard Park, Ballybeg, Waterford, with locals saying he was an absolute gentleman who loved where he came from and recently contributed to a video on the 50th anniversary of the Ballybeg parish.
In a heartbreaking post on his death notice, his mother Jane wrote: “Forever my baby boy, Love you always.”

Sammy’s girlfriend Zara Murphy also paid a heartfelt tribute on social media. Writing on Facebook, she said: “Today was the day we lost you my boy you put up a hard fight, and you tried your best. I am forever proud of you and even prouder to call you, my boyfriend. You meant the absolute world to me, and you know that I put you before everything.”
She added: “Even when we had our bad times, we still both knew we were always going to stick to each other. You told me the other day that I’ll always be your baby girl and I will. You have my heart completely broken.
“I’m going to keep being strong for you because that’s what you want. I love you endlessly, my boy you’ll always be in my heart. I love you forever Sammy.”

The local Coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
In a statement, a Garda spokesperson: “The cyclist, a male aged 18 years, who was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford for treatment of serious injuries has since died.”
They added: “Any road users with camera footage, including motorists with dash-cam footage from the area at the time, are asked to provide it to investigating gardaí.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Waterford Garda Station on (051) 305300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
No funeral arrangements have been made as yet.
NOTE: Mr Hanrahan’s mother’s name was originally incorrectly reported as Catherine
